The Day the Earth Caught Fire opens our “Pulp Fiction at the Playhouse” classic-film series — Wednesday 11 November 2026 at 4pm. Tickets £4.50 including a free hot drink.

As London swelters under a terrifying heatwave, Fleet Street journalists uncover a chilling truth: nuclear tests have knocked the Earth off its axis and sent it towards the sun. With time running out, they race to expose the catastrophe while humanity searches for a last chance of survival. Val Guest’s gripping British science-fiction classic stars Edward Judd, Janet Munro and Leo McKern.

One of the most unsettling and certainly most prescient British films ever made
